Urad dal chutney

Urad dal chutney ingredients:

  • 1 cup urad dhal
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1" frresh ginger root
  • small lemon size tamarind
  • 5 red chillies or to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • salt to taste
  • oil 1 tbsp

Urad dal chutney preparation:

  • Heat a pan with oil and add urad dal.
  • Roast on low flame till they turn into golden yellow colour.
  • Remove from flame and keep aside.
  • Then red chillies, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds.
  • Roast on low flame till you get a nice aroma.
  • Remove from flame and keep aside.
  • Then add sliced onions and saute till they turn into transparent.
  • Remove from flame and set aside.
  • Allow the roasted ingredients to cool for some time.
  • Now blend the roasted ingredients along with fresh ginger, soaked tamarind and required quantity of salt in a blender.
  • Add water if necessary and adjust salt.
  • Transfer into serving bowl and serve with hot plain white rice with ghee.
