Rava idly ingredients:

  • 1 cup sooji(semolina or upma ravva)
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp channa dal
  • 1″ fresh ginger root (grated)
  • 3 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • big pinch of soda
  • 2 carrots (peeled and grated )
  • few curry leaves
  • few coriander leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 1 cup well beaten thick yogurt (curd)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 15 cashewnuts (roasted)
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Rava idli preparation:

  • Heat a pan with ghee and add mustard seeds.
  • When they start to pop add chana dhal and saute till they turn into golden brown colour.
  • Then add green chillies, curry leaves and green chillies.
  • Then immediately add rava(sooji) and stir continuously for 3-4 mins on low flame.
  • Remove from heat and set aside for cool.
  • Finally add gratted carrot, chopped coriander leaves, well beaten curd, water, idly soda and salt.
  • Mix well and keep restly for 30 mins.
  • In-between grease the idly plates with ghee or oil.
  • Place the roasted cashewnuts on each plate and pour a laddle full batter in the idli plates.
  • Then steam the idly plates in idly cooker for 7-10 mins.
  • Remove from heat and set aside for 5 mins.
  • Dip a spoon in water and run it around the mould and flip out the idlys using a spoon.
  • Now your rava idly is ready to serve.
  • Serve ravva idli with your favourite chutney
