Radish chutney

(mullangi chutney or mullangi thogayal)

Radish chutney ingredients:

  • 1 radish (big size)                   
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 8 red chillies or to taste       
  • 3 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • salt to taste

Seasoning ingredients:

  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • few curry leaves

Radish chutney recipe:

  • Peel and cut the radish into small pieces.
  • Heat a pan with oil.
  • Add red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek and saute for few mins.
  • Remove from the pan and keep aside.
  • Now add peeled and chopped radish pieces and saute for 5-10 mins.
  • Remove from heat and keep aside.
  • In the same pan add chopped onion and chopped tomato.
  • Saute till the tomatoes become juicy.
  • Remove from heat and allow them to cool for sometime.
  • Add the sauteed ingredients except radish and onion, tomato in a mixer jar.
  • Make a fine powder and then add radish, tamarind pulp, onion, tomato and salt.
  • Once again grind it to a fine paste or your desired consistency.
  • Add water if required and adjust salt.
  • Now heat a pan and do the seasoning and pour the mullangi paste.
  • Cook on low flame for 5 mins and remove from heat.
  • Mullangi pachadi is ready to serve.
  • Serve with plain white rice, dosa, idly, etc...

cooking time: 10-15mins
