Poornalu (poornaalu or poornam
boorelu)
(Traditional andhra easy
and tasty sweet recipe)

Poornalu
ingredients:
Poornam or stuffing
ingredients:
- 2 cups chana dal
- 2 cups jaggery
- 1/4 cup cocomut pieces
- a pinch of cardamom powder
Batter
ingredients:
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 cup urad dhal
- Oil for deep fry
Batter
preparation:
- Wash and soak the rice and dal for 4-6 hrs and grind
this into a smooth and thick batter.
- Add required quantity of salt and mix well and keep
aside.

Poornam or sweet
stuffing balls
preparation:
- Clean and wash the dal.
- Pressure cook the dal with double the amount of water
for 2 whistles.
- Allow it to cool for some time and drain the excess of
water and keep aside.
- Then mash the cooked chana dal and keep aside.
- Now heat a pan and add grated jaggery, cooked and
mashed chana dal and little amount of water.
- Cook on low flame till you can make balls out of
them.
- In-between stir well. So that they don't burn.
- Finally add cardamom powder and coconut pieces and stir
well.
- Remove from flame and allow it to cool for some
time.
- Then make a small lemon size balls and keep aside.
Poornalu or poornam
boorelu preparation:
- Heat a deep pan (kadai) with oil.
- Dip the above poornam balls into the batter and fry
them in oil till they into golden brown colour.
- Remove from flame and drain the excess of oil.
- Finally your poornaalu is ready to serve.
