Dum chicken

Dum chicken ingredients:

  • 1 cup thick yoghurt
  • 1 onion (finely sliced)
  • 1 tsp green chilli paste or to taste
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 4 tbsp cashewnut paste
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • salt to taste
  • coriander leaves for garnishing

Marinate ingredients:

  • 500g chicken
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp green chilli paste

Seasoning ingredients:

  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1" cinnamon stick
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp oil

Dum chicken preparation:

  • Cut the chicken into bite size pieces, wash and drain all the water and keep aside.
  • Marinate the chicken with marinate ingredients for 2 hours.
  • Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil and butter.
  • Add the seasoning ingredients and saute for a min.
  • Add sliced onions and saute untill they turn into golden brown colour.
  • Add ginger garlic paste, green chilli paste and saute till the raw smell disappears.
  • Now add the marinade chicken, salt and cook for 3-5 mins.
  • Add cashewnut paste and stir well.
  • Then add coconut milk and garam masala.
  • Close with a lid and cook on low flame for 30 mins or till the chicken pieces become tender.
  • Finally adjust salt and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Dum chicken is ready to serve.
  • Serve hot with Roti, paratha,or palin white rice.

Prep.time&cooking time: 2-2.5 hrs

Serves: 3-4
