Curry
(Murungaikai Kuxhambu or
Munakkaya pulusu)

Drumstick Curry
ingredients:
- 2 drumsticks
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- tamarind, medium lemon size,
- 1 tsp chilli powder or to taste
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 10 fenugreek seeds
- a pinch of asafoetida
- few curry leaves
- 1/2 tbsp of oil
- salt to taste
Munakkaya pulusu or
murungaikai kulambu
preparation:
- Cut the drumsticks into 2" pieces and cook till half
done and keep aside.
- Soak the tamarind in warm water for 10 mins and extract
the juice.
- Take a deep pan and heat with oil and add mustard
seeds.
- When they start to pop add cumin seeds, methi seeds and
curry leaves.
- Saute for few seconds and add chopped onions.
- Saute till the onions become transparent.
- Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Saute till the tomatoes
become juicy.
- Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder
and asafoetida.
- Mix well and add cooked drumstick pieces.
- Add tamarind juice and check the taste.
- Cover with a lid and cook on low flame fro 15 mins or
your desired consistancy.
- Remove from flame and your easy and tasty drumstick
curry is ready to serve.
- Serve with plain white rice and papad.
