Bread bonda

(South indian easy, tasty snack recipe)

Bread bonda ingredients:

  • 2 medium size potatoes
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2" fresh ginger root
  • few coriander leaves
  • salt to taste

Seasoning ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp chana dal
  • few curry leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp oil

Outer layer ingredients:

  • 8 bread slices (remove the edges)
  • water for dip the bread slices
  • oil for deep frying

Potato (aloo) stuffing preparation:

  • Wash, cook the potatoes till soft and mash them.
  • Heat a pan with oil and add mustard seeds.
  • When they start to pop add the remaining seasoning ingredients and saute till they turn into golden yellow colour.
  • Then add chopped onions and saute till they become transparent.
  • Add green chillies, ginger root and saute for 2-4 mins.
  • Now add chilli powder, turmeric powder and saute for few seconds.
  • Then add mashed potatoes and require amount of salt.
  • Mix well and cook on low flamr for 5-8 mins.
  • Finally adjust salt and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Now your aloo stuffing is ready and allow it to cool for sometime.

Bread bonda preparation:

  • Heat oil in a deep pan/kadai.
  • Make a small lemon size balls with the above aloo stuffing and keep aside.
  • Tkae the bread slice and dip in water and take out immediately.
  • Squeeze the water with your palms.
  • Now place the potato ball (aloo stuffing) in the middle of the bread slice and carefully close the edges.
  • Slowly leave them in hot oil.
  • Fry them until they turn into golden brown colour.
  • Remove from flame and drain the excess of oil.
  • Now your easy and tasty bread bonda is ready to serve.
    Serve hot with sauce or ketchup.
