pappu or tomato dhal

Recipe)

Tomato pappu
ingredients:
- 1 cup toor dal
- 2 tomato (finely chopped)
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 6 green chillies or to taste
- 2 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
Seasoning
ingredients:
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 10 fenugreek seeds
- few curry leaves
- a pinch of asafoetida

Tomato pappu or tomato
dhal preparation:

Clean and wash the dal.

Add toor dal, onions, tomatoes, green chillies,
tamarind pulp and turmeric powder in a cooking
vessel.

Cook till the dal becomes tender. (If you want you
can do this in a pressure cooker also. Cook upto 2
to 3)

Switch off the stove and allow it to cool for 10
mins.

Mash the cooked items with a wooden masher and keep
aside.

Heat a pan with oil and add mustard seeds.

When they start to pop add cumin seeds, fenugreek
seeds,curry leaves and asafoetida.

Saute for few mins and add the cooked and mashed
dhal mixture.

Mix well and adjust salt.

Remove from heat tomato pappu is ready to serve.
