(South Indian Breakfast Recipe)




Idiappam ingredients: 

  • 2 cups rice
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • 4 tbsp sugar or to taste 
  • Water for mixing 




Idiappam Preparation: 

  • Clean, wash and soak the rice for atleast 2 hours. 
  • Drain the water and spread on a clean cloth or paper towel for 30 mins. 
  • Powder it after completely dry. 
  • Add salt and mix well. 
  • Add hot water little by little and mix well. 
  • Mix until it is ready to make soft and smooth dough. 
  • Take a small quantity of the dough and put into the Idiappam maker. 
  • Press the idiappam maker into greased plate. 
  • Keep the plate in a pressure cooker or idly cooker and steam cook for 5 mins. 
  • Remove the plate from cooker and allow it to cool for sometime. 
  • Finally mix with sugar and grated coconut. 
  • Serve hot or warm.

cooking time: 10-20 mins

Serves: 4-5
